WHAT MAKES THIS JOURNAL AND ORGANIZER DIFFERENT
While it was important for me to create a resource to streamline, simplify, and synthesize the logistics related to the care of a loved one, I didn’t want this resource to feel cold or clinical. I wanted it to reflect that its user was someone caring for someone that they love.
I included inspirational quotes, motivating messages, and pages to add pictures & text that capture memories with your loved one, both old and new.
MY STORY
Nobody understands just how emotionally, mentally and physically draining it is to care for a loved one with dementia, until they are faced with that devastating task.
Dealing with my father’s progressing dementia has been the most difficult thing I’ve ever had to do. Dementia has been called the longest and saddest goodbye, and I can attest to how painful it is to watch someone you love slowly disappear.
It is also incredibly overwhelming.
Bank accounts. Pensions. Doctor’s Appointments. Medication logs. Behavior Trackers. Expenses. Power of attorney paperwork. Contact information for potential in home support services and assisted living facilities.
Taking responsibility for a parent, grandparent or other loved one’s medical, financial, and daily care needs feels like a full-time job.
Trying to keep track of all the logistical details of my dad’s care started keeping me up most nights. I’d make phone calls and do research during the day, writing things down on random notepads, but there was so much information and so many details to keep track of. It was difficult putting the pieces of the puzzle I was collecting into a cohesive picture.
Seeking clarity, I started creating graphic organizers to keep track of various aspects of my dad’s care.
Soon, I began to wonder how the organizers I was creating could help others going through similar circumstances. I started asking myself what kinds of things would be useful for caregivers of all kinds.
Creating The Caregiver’s Organizer & Jounral became a passion project, one I’m excited to share with others.
